So, what’s up at The Red Zone Report this week?

If you haven’t gotten a chance to vote on the ‘Which school has the richest tradition?’ poll yet, you still have time to do so.

I’ll be keeping the poll running through at least Wednesday, so that gives you plenty of time to lodge a vote for the school you think fit’s the bill.

So far, nearly 1200 votes have been cast for the 16 schools that are in the mix, and there may well be a surprise leader, as Nebraska is currently well ahead of Ohio State, USC, Michigan, and Alabama.

I know quite a few Nebraska fans voted on the poll, so that’s no doubt helped their numbers, but the other schools have done some catching up since the Huskers took a big early lead.

Since I’m the one who put the poll up in the first place, I’m sure a lot of you might be wondering who I think has the richest tradition of them all.

That’s a good question, a very, very good question, and it’s one that will be answered when the poll closes this week.

Talking about tradition is a good way to lead in to talking about one of the biggest factors in having a storied history - staying power. It takes a lot to be at or near the top for an extended period of time, and there are just a handful of schools that have been able to do so with minimal bumps in the road.

Along with those things, there’s a lot more in store on The Red Zone Report this week. We’re wrapping up Big East previews and moving on to the Big Ten, where Ohio State has reigned supreme for much of the decade, but there are a whole host of challengers looking to knock the Buckeyes off the top.

This week will also mark the start of our NFL previews, beginning with the NFC and AFC East divisions, so be on the lookout for those. If you want to find all of our previews in one tidy place, just click the 2008 Preview Section link in the header. I’ll be updating the list this week and adding all of the new ones, but the majority of our previews thus far are there.

Also, for the fantasy football fanatics, not only is the latest installment of Dan Lippert’s 2008 fantasy position guide coming today (check out QBs and RBs if you haven’t yet), but there’ll also be news on the fantasy football league that we’ll be running on the site this year.

A few other special things are in store for the week as well, and there may just be a contest in store as well, so there’s plenty to check out and look forward to this week around The Red Zone Report.

We’re closing in on the one month to go mark for the kickoff of the 2008 college football season, and that means it’s a big time for all at The Red Zone Report, and as a result, it’s a pretty big time for those who read this blog.

For much of the last few months, I’ve been running the site by myself for financial reasons, and while I did a decent job of keeping it regularly updated, I knew that I needed to get a little help to make The Red Zone Report what I know it can be.

If you’ve been visiting for the last month or so, you’ve seen how much more regularly things have been churned out, and that’s thanks to the new crew that I’ve brought on board.

If you haven’t gotten a chance to check out some of the work by the new guys, here’s links to everyone’s archives.

Matt Severance

Mark Scott

Jake Keyes

Shotgun Spratling

Matt Gentile

Chris Humpherys

Dan Lippert

We’ve been busy doing everything from college football previews to keeping up with the latest headlines, and we’ve also started a weekly videocast hosted by Mark Scott.

This week, we’re starting up Big East previews, and we’ll also be starting a look at some of the ‘bests’ in college football, from the schools with the richest tradition, to the best fight songs, and more.

So, keep coming back, and don’t hesitate to participate, from commenting, to giving us feedback on what you’d like to see, to pitching in story ideas and tips.

The next NFL Draft is more than nine months away, but many football fans are anxiously preparing for another draft–their fantasy football drafts.

With the start of the football seasons quickly approaching, it’s time to start strategizing about who the cornerstone of your fantasy football team will be and what gems you hope to snag with your late-round picks.

Even if you come out with a hand full of aces, you may inevitably want to make a trade with a rival at some point of the season.

So, what are you going to do if someone gets in an uproar about the deal that you want to do?

That’s where Fantasy Sports Judge comes in.

Tom Harkins of Fantasy Sports Trophies offers a mediation service which allows all fantasy sports disputes to be resolved impartially and unbiased, so that you can get on with your run at glory and keep your friends while you’re at it.

The service is pretty affordable as well, as it costs only $9.95 to resolve your previously irresolvable arguments.

Tom also offers a season-long plan (for $49.95) so that if you play in an extremely turmoil-filled league, you don’t have to worry about fantasy sports disputes carrying on longer than they should.

Now, here’s the good part. As you’ve noticed, Tom’s site is Fantasy Sports Trophies. He offers awards for fantasy baseball, fantasy basketball, fantasy hockey, and fantasy auto racing so that you can give the winner of your league something they can show off for their triumph.

For his fantasy football line of trophies, you can go for something inexpensive and get the $10 Victory Wreath, go for the $99 gold, 15-inch, Premier Alpha Cup, or splash out $325 or $399 for the biggest and best of them all.

All of the trophies can be engraved and personalized, and most can be reused as year-by-year trophies or used simply as one-time trophies.

Better yet, if you purchase a trophy through Tom’s site, you’ll get his Fantasy Sports Judge services absolutely FREE. Now that’s a good deal, folks.

So, check out Fantasy Sports Trophies today to get your hands on one of his specially-designed trophies and to sign up for the Fantasy Sports Judge service.
