To put it simply, The Red Zone Report is for fans, by fans. There’s an ever-growing team of writers and contributors working hard to make this site a great resource for all fans, both fanatical and casual alike.

The Red Zone Report started in January of 2008, and while there’ve been some bumps in the road and changes in the staff, it’s been running strong and steadily growing since those first posts.

The site’s theme is The Morning After theme by Arun Kale. Love it? You should. Hate it? Well, that’s just fine. I do wish that I had more time to tinker with it, or make a custom theme, but those are things to explore down the road.

I’m always looking for ways to improve the site and to make sure that the contest is always top-notch, and that means there’ll be several new features as the site grows, and a few features that will be mainstays no matter how long this thing keeps going, which I hope is a very, very long time.

The Red Zone Report Staff

Eddie Griffin, Publisher/Writer/Editor

Eddie is 23, and currently lives in Weslaco, Texas, with his fiancee Iris.

He was born and raised in West Point, Mississippi, where his love for Mississippi State, sports, and writing was fostered. From there, he went to Florida State, and now, he’s in south Texas, living the dream as a full-time sports writer/blogger. Besides The Red Zone Report, he’s a full-time editor at Soccerlens, the top independent soccer blog on the web, and he also does a little freelancing on the side.

His favorite college teams, naturally, are Mississippi State and Florida State, and his favorite NFL team is the Dallas Cowboys, which is an especially good thing, considering his future father-in-law is as diehard a Cowboys fan as they come.

If you’re interested in writing for The Red Zone Report, send an e-mail to me at eddie [at] theredzonereport.com with ideas and topics you have in mind, writing experience/samples, or questions about what the site may be looking for from contributors at a certain time. Writing experience isn’t a must, but passion (or at least interest) and knowledge is, at least on some level.

Matt Severance - Writer/Editor

Matt Severance resides in Tampa, Florida. He’s an alum of Western Michigan University, but he’s also a big Miami Hurricanes fan, which won’t cause any problems until it’s Miami-FSU week. Matt’s a veteran journalist with the kind of experience that I’d like to have a decade from now, and he helps make the site run like a well-oiled machine.

Mark Scott - Writer/Videocaster

Mark Scott is 23 years old and was born and raised in Oakville, Ontario, Canada. A town just outside of Toronto. His love and passion for all sports grew in the sports-mad city of Toronto. Growing up he followed all of the sports that he could, but mainly followed his hometown teams the Maple Leafs, Blue Jays, Raptors and Argos. He currently follows all the sports he can get his hands on. His love for football has grown and continues to grow as he gets older. He recently graduated from Algonquin College in Ottawa with a degree in Television Broadcasting. He is a bit of a sports encyclopedia and plans on becoming the next great sports broadcaster.

Matt Gentile - Writer

Matt Gentile resides in Illinois and balances churning out regular articles for The Red Zone Report with his day job of being a political reporter. He’s a diehard Chicago Bears fan, which may or may not be a good thing, depending on how this season goes.

Chris Humpherys - Writer

Chris Humpherys was born in 1968 in New York City. He lived up and down the east coast before moving overseas and graduating from high school in Santiago, Chile. He went on to get a B.A. and M.A. in political science from the University of Florida, where he obviously became a Gator fan. His other sports allegiances are the Boston Red Sox, Orlando Magic and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

He began blogging for Foxsports.com under the pseudonym Reverend Rhythm and developed a healthy following. He also writes freelance for several publications around Florida.

Dan Lippert - Fantasy Sports Writer

Dan graduated with a degree in education from a school that no longer exists. He lives in Jefferson, Wisconsin and loves the Packers and Badgers. His wife claims to hate everything having to do with sports, but he’s working hard to change that.

Kelsey McCarson - Writer

Kel has a B.A. in English from the University of Houston. His favorite NFL team is the Dallas Cowboys. He also admires Green Bay, but that’s mostly because he’s married to a Packers fan.  His favorite football players are Vince Young, Joe Montana and Emmitt Smith.

Kelsey enjoys all kinds of NCAA football.  He grew up watching the Texas Longhorns, but now he is a die-hard fan of the University of Houston.  His favorite Cougars are Anthony Alridge and Kevin Kolb.
