Hallady, 32, is 148-76 with a 3.43 ERA in his career but has never pitched in the post season
Trading Aces
The Roy Halladay trade talk is officially over. The Toronto Blue Jays are set to trade the former Cy Young winner to the Philadelphia Phillies.
According to ESPN’s Jayson Stark, the Phillies will send outfielder Michael Taylor, catching prospect Travis d’Arnaud and pitcher Kyle Drabek to the Blue Jays for Halladay.
Meanwhile, the other former Cy Young Winner, Cliff Lee, will be sent to the Seattle Mariners for pitching prospect Phillippe Aumont and outfielder Tyson Gillies.
Buster Olney reported that Halladay agreed to a three-year contract extension guaranteed to be worth $60 million.
Red Sox get Lackey, could add Cameron
The Boston Red Sox added another premier pitcher to their stout rotation by inking John Lackey to a five-year deal. The amount of money is unknown at this point, but Stark said it could be close to the $82.5 million A.J. Burnett got for his five-year contract.
Lackey, who is 102-71 with a 3.81 ERA, spent eight seasons with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. He went 11-8 with a 3.83 ERA in 2009.
Multiple reports also indicate that the Red Sox are also close to signing former Milwaukee Brewers centerfielder Mike Cameron.
Matsui L.A. bound
2009 World Series MVP Hideki Matsui signed a one-year deal with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
Matsui, who hit 28 home runs and 90 RBI with the New York Yankees in 2009, will earn $6.5 million as a designated hitter. This ultimately spells the end for Vladmir Guerrero’s time in L.A.
White Sox acquire Juan Pierre from Dodgers
The Los Angeles Dodgers traded Juan Pierre and cash to the Chicago White Sox for two minor leaguers, according Dave Van Dyke of the Chicago Tribune.
Pierre, 32, is expected to start in left field and assume lead-off duties. The White Sox had hoped to resign fan favorite Scott Podsednik but both sides had trouble determining the length of a potential contract.
Pierre is owed $18.5 million over the next two years, but the Dodgers will pay a portion of that. He hit .308 and stole 30 bases in 145 games filling in for Manny Ramirez.
