Browns Fire GM Kotinis

When you have to be escorted away from your place of work, it’s usually a sign that a ‘former’ should go in front of ‘place of work’, and that’s the case for GM, or former GM, rather, , who was sent packing by owner a day after the Browns fell to 1-7 with their latest display of complete and utter ineptitude.

Lerner did say that Mangini’s job is safe for now, but how much longer will it be safe? It’s safe to assume (har, har, har) that it won’t be much longer if the Browns continue to be this bad. And when a handpicked Mangini guy in Kokinis was sent packing, that should be a clear warning sign for Mangini, even if he’s still attempting to be confident.

Frankly, the Mangini hire smelled like a terrible one from the outset, but hopefully Lerner can undo this mess and find the right guy come this off-season. Unfortunately Josh McDaniels is unavailable now, but I digress.

I wonder how much Martin O’Neill (manager of English Premier League club Aston Villa, also owned by Lerner and in much, much better shape than the Browns) knows about American football?

Texans’ Daniels Out For Season With Torn ACL

Terrible news for fantasy owners, for , and for the , as their Pro Bowl tight end is out for the season after tearing the ACL in his right knee early in yesterday’s 31-10 win at Buffalo.

Daniels was on pace for a 1,000 yard, 10-touchdown campaign, and he’d been on fire prior to the injury, as he had 22 catches for 295 yards and three touchdowns in the three games prior to Sunday, and he had a 22-yard catch on Houston’s first drive before sustaining his season-ending injury on the next drive.

The loss robs Matt Schaub of his second-leading receiver, and fantasy owners of a guy who’d emerged as an elite pass-catching tight end.

Rookie had arthroscopic knee surgery on Monday and will miss at least one game, so that puts in the tight end spotlight for the Texans for the short term, but once Casey is healthy again, he’ll be a smart pickup because of his receiving abilities. As is for now, Dreessen will get some opportunities, but you might see the receivers getting a few more looks from Schaub.

Saints’ Ellis Out 4-6 Weeks

defensive tackle missed last night’s win over Atlanta and will also miss a few more weeks due to a sprained MCL suffered in the Saints’ Week 7 win at Miami.

Of course, having Ellis in the lineup is a big positive for the Saints’ defense, but while he’s gone, it looks like they won’t miss a beat with backup . Hargrove had four tackles and a two sacks against the Dolphins, and he took advantage of his first start of the season by registering four more tackles and another sack against the Falcons last night.

Packers’ Rodgers To Play Through Sprains

is on pace to account for nearly 5,000 total yards this season. That is, if he can make it through the season upright.

Rodgers is also on pace to be sacked an astounding 71 times this season, and after getting beat up every time he takes the field.

Along with likely being sore a little bit of everywhere, Rodgers is dealing with a sprained toe on one foot, while the other foot is sprained. Those nicks will see him miss some amount of practice time this week, but as it looks right now, he won’t miss Sunday’s game at Tampa Bay.

Unless that status changes, Rodgers is a must-start against the Buccaneers, who are last in the league in yards per attempt allowed (8.7), 30th in the league in touchdown passes allowed (16), and 15th in passing yards allowed per game (214.0). Rodgers is 2nd, 6th, and 7th in those categories, and he’s also the league leader in passer rating (110.4).

Boldin Re-Sprains Ankle Vs. Panthers

Arizona receiver left Sunday’s loss to Carolina early after re-aggravating his right ankle sprain, but according to the three-time Pro Bowler, if he can run, he’s going to play on Sunday against Chicago.

On the other hand, Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt said that he could hold Boldin out with the rest of the season in mind, so it’ll be interesting to see how this one plays out over the course of the week.

If you’re a fantasy owner, Boldin hasn’t exactly given you a ton of value thus far this season, with zero 100-yard games and only one touchdown in seven games. So, him sitting might actually being do you a favor, especially when the matchup is against a solid Chicago pass defense.

Toe To Sideline Broncos RT Harris

starting right tackle will miss at least one game with a toe injury suffered in Sunday’s loss at Baltimore.

The Broncos are waiting to find out the seriousness of the injury, but Harris’ streak of 22 straight starts will definitely come to an end. Tyler Polumbus, who replaced Harris against the Ravens, will start in his place on Monday night against Pittsburgh.

Browns’ Barton Done For Season?

A source close to Browns linebacker told ESPN’s Chris Mortensen that the veteran’s season is in jeopardy after he suffered a neck injury in Sunday’s loss at Chicago.

Barton was diagnosed with a bulging disc between the C3 and C4 vertebrae. He was second on the team with 58 tackles, and if he’s done for the season, the Browns will be without both of their top two tacklers, after D’Qwell Jackson was lost for the season with a shoulder injury.

Chargers Waive WR Chambers

may have made a big third-down catch to help keep a fourth-quarter drive alive for San Diego in their 24-16 win over Oakland yesterday, but it wasn’t enough to keep him employed by the Chargers for long, as he was released today after two disappointing seasons.

The Chargers needed to sign a linebacker after Tim Dobbins was injured against the Raiders, and Chambers was expendable after being passed on the depth chart by , who has emerged as a valuable weapon for San Diego.

Chambers shouldn’t be out of work for too long. He could provide quality depth as a third or fourth receiver, and with injuries and production at receiver being an issue for several teams, expect to see him picked up sometime soon.
