The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Miami Dolphins will both have two new starting quarterbacks under center in week four, according to reports.
Buccaneers’ coach Raheem Morris officially benched quarterback Byron Leftwich in favor of second year man Josh Johnson. Rookie Josh Freeman is now second on the depth chart and Leftwich has fallen to third.
Johnson replaced Leftwich yesterday for one fourth-quarter series during a miserable outing against the New York Giants that resulted in a 24-0 loss.
In Miami, Dolphins’ quarterback Chad Pennington, who led the team to the playoffs with an 11-5 record in 2008, is apparently done for the year.
ESPN’s Chris Mortensen is reporting that Pennington has been diagnosed with an injured right throwing shoulder. Pennington has had surgies on the same shoulder twice in 2004 and 2005.
This would mean that Chad Henne, the Dolphins’ second round pick in 2008, will start next week against the Buffalo Bills. Henne came into yesterday’s game against the San Diego Chargers during the thrid quarter in relief of Pennington and went 10 for 19 for 92 yards and an interception.
