Chicago’s Brian Urlacher Expected to Miss Rest of Season
Urlacher dislocated his wrist in Sunday night’s battle with the Green Bay Packers, and watched the Bears blow the game while standing on the sidelines.
After surgery to repair the damage, it appears Urlacher will spend the next 15 games doing the same, although no official word has been made from the team.
This is a huge hit to Chicago’s line-backing corps, and could either see Lance Briggs sliding into the middle, Chicago depending on veteran Hunter Hillenmeyer, or digging into the free agency pool.
Former Buccaneer Derrick Brooks has already been rumored as a possible replacement.
Eagles Won’t Rule Donovan McNabb Out For Week Two
McNabb hurt his ribs and his fantasy owner’s confidence in him after a touchdown run against Carolina late on Sunday.
While it’s not nearly as serious s originally feared, there is still the possibility that the Eagles sit McNabb against an aggressive New York Giants defense, and instead let Kevin Kolb take the beating.
Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer is reporting that McNabb will “definitely” miss at least one game, but several other reports suggest that Philadelphia may try to get him ready to play.
Monitor the situation all week if you’re thinking about playing him.
Carolina’s John Fox Says Jake Delhomme Still the Starter
Really?
Delhomme has done nothing but throw nine interceptions in his last two starts, and didn’t offer anything that resembled leadership or good offense in yesterdays embarrassing loss to the Eagles.
The running game never got off the ground, but Delhomme will have to have a huge rebound game to hold off Josh McCown or Matt Moore.
Come to think of it, Delhomme probably has fairly solid job security, considering the alternatives.
Early Reports Suggest Anthony Gonzalez Will Miss 2-6 Weeks
It’s a rough timetable, but it’s better than missing the entire season.
Gonzalez crumpled to the ground untouched early in Indianapolis’s match-up with the Jacksonville Jaguars, and was helped off the field.
It wasn’t a good sign that he wasn’t able to put any pressure on the injured leg when being helped off. Further testing today (Monday) should reveal the exact extent of the injury.
Receivers Austin Collie and Pierre Garcon figure to benefit immensely while Gonzalez is out.
Mike Bell to Remain the Starter For New Orleans Saints?
After Bell’s excellent performance against Detroit on Sunday, there is some speculation that coach Sean Payton won’t “fix what isn’t broken”.
The coaching staff apparently isn’t sold on Pierre Thomas “holding up” for the whole season anymore, and is enamored with Bell’s tough running style and ability to get hard yards in between the tackles.
With a 5.1 yard average on 28 carries, there’s good reason to move forward with Bell.
Aaron Rodgers’ Heroics Seal Win Over Chicago Bears
It’s about time. Still, a congratulations and hefty double-high fives are in order for the second-year starter.
He was under tight scrutiny all of last season for his woeful 0-7 record in comeback attempts with under two-minutes remaining.
While Rodgers was less than spectacular the rest of the night, he saved the best for last when he exploited Nathan Vasher on a deep pass, connecting with Greg Jennings for the game-winning score.
Jay Cutler Disappoints in Chicago Debut
Cutler appeared rattled and rushed early in his game against Green Bay, as the Packer defense made him look jittery and indecisive en route to three first-half interceptions.
He was able to cool down and lead two solid scoring drives, but threw his fourth interception to end the game and seal the win for Green Bay with just over a minute remaining.
Let’s hope for Cutler and Chicago’s sake that week two isn’t a repeat performance.
Giants Hakeem Nicks Expected to Miss 2-3 Weeks
There goes his ascension to the top of New York’s rotation.
Nicks’ injury should give both Sinorice Moss and Ramses Barden a chance to prove themselves, and if they play well, they could keep Nicks a non-factor the rest of the way.
The timetable for a return could be even more than the estimated 2-3 weeks, as Nicks has yet to undergo an MRI.
