NFL Quick Hits (September 11): Steelers beat Titans but lose Polamalu, McFadden named Raiders’ starting RB, and more

Steelers Possibly Out With Sprained MCL

Coach Mike Tomlin wouldn’t give a definite on the injury or how much time his star saftey would miss, but it’s not looking good.

This isn’t good for Pittsburgh, though, as Polamalu was all over the field before the injury, while their pass defense saw a significant drop-off after he left the game.

With the possibility that Polamalu’s injury could be worse than first guessed, it’s a safe guess he’ll miss a minimum of 3-6 weeks.

Steelers Pull Off Win In Unlikely Fashion

Pittsburgh walked into overtime against the last night, while almost giving the Tians the game. They had it won on a big pass play to Hines Ward, but then he fumbled the ball inside the five-yard line with under a minute remaining.

The most interesting aspect of Thursday night’s action was Ben Roethlisberger’s 363 yards and solid 33-43 finish. Star receiver Santonio Holmes also had a huge day, finishing with 131 yards and one touchdown.

and Steelers Ground Game Stuffed Against Tennessee

Parker had trouble running all day, as he started the game with -4 yards rushing, and used 13 carries to finish with only 19 yards.

The rest of the rush offense didn’t do any better, however, and Pittsburgh was forced to rely on Ben Roethlisberger’s arm the entire night.

New Orleans Saints Tackle, , Out For Six Weeks

Brown had hip surgery to ensure 100% health for the rest of the season, but with a hernia injury that ws already keeping him out the first few weeks, Brown is now lost for over a month.

This isn’t great news for the Saints rushing game, but even worse for Drew Brees’ blindside.

to Get “Williams Wall” For Entire Season

We already knew their opening-day suspension had been lifted, but now we know the Vikings’ interior defensive linemen are safe for all of 2009.

This is terrific news for Pat and (as well as Minnesota), while horrible news for any running backs facing the Vikings this year. Needless to say, you shouldn’t start your running backs against them.

Officially Raiders’ Starting Running Back

is still hurt, and McFadden has out-played Michael Bush up until this point. McFadden is an easy choice as he was 2008′s first round draft pick, and is by-far Oakland’s most explosive running back.

McFadden is a decent RB2 play versus the San Diego Chargers on Monday night.
