Sure, Kansas’ defense allowed Louisiana Tech’s Phillip Livas to break loose for a 78-yard run. But, KU safety Darrell Stuckey made sure Livas didn’t get the two yards he needed to get into the end zone.
Livas is one of the fastest players the country may not know about, and for Stuckey to run from the opposite side of the field and catch him from behind is no small feat.
And as noted on the original post, quite a few players would have just let Livas get the touchdown, but it proved to be a pretty significant play, as it came early in the third quarter with Kansas up 20-0 and trying to put the game out of reach? So, if Livas scored there, it’s a ballgame again.
But, Stuckey’s tackle not only kept Tech out of the end zone on that play, but it allowed KU’s defense to make a stop deep in their end, and on 4th down, Tech’s kicker missed a chip shot field goal. It proved to be La. Tech’s best scoring chance, as the Jayhawks held them off of the scoreboard in a 29-0 blanking.
Not only does Stuckey get an A++ for effort, but he also got the results too. There’s a reason why you play until the whistle, or until the guy has crossed the goal line.
