So, what’s up at The Red Zone Report this week?

If you haven’t gotten a chance to vote on the ‘Which school has the richest tradition?’ poll yet, you still have time to do so.

I’ll be keeping the poll running through at least Wednesday, so that gives you plenty of time to lodge a vote for the school you think fit’s the bill.

So far, nearly 1200 votes have been cast for the 16 schools that are in the mix, and there may well be a surprise leader, as Nebraska is currently well ahead of Ohio State, USC, Michigan, and Alabama.

I know quite a few Nebraska fans voted on the poll, so that’s no doubt helped their numbers, but the other schools have done some catching up since the Huskers took a big early lead.

Since I’m the one who put the poll up in the first place, I’m sure a lot of you might be wondering who I think has the richest tradition of them all.

That’s a good question, a very, very good question, and it’s one that will be answered when the poll closes this week.

Talking about tradition is a good way to lead in to talking about one of the biggest factors in having a storied history - staying power. It takes a lot to be at or near the top for an extended period of time, and there are just a handful of schools that have been able to do so with minimal bumps in the road.

Along with those things, there’s a lot more in store on The Red Zone Report this week. We’re wrapping up Big East previews and moving on to the Big Ten, where Ohio State has reigned supreme for much of the decade, but there are a whole host of challengers looking to knock the Buckeyes off the top.

This week will also mark the start of our NFL previews, beginning with the NFC and AFC East divisions, so be on the lookout for those. If you want to find all of our previews in one tidy place, just click the 2008 Preview Section link in the header. I’ll be updating the list this week and adding all of the new ones, but the majority of our previews thus far are there.

Also, for the fantasy football fanatics, not only is the latest installment of Dan Lippert’s 2008 fantasy position guide coming today (check out QBs and RBs if you haven’t yet), but there’ll also be news on the fantasy football league that we’ll be running on the site this year.

A few other special things are in store for the week as well, and there may just be a contest in store as well, so there’s plenty to check out and look forward to this week around The Red Zone Report.
