The Bears sign RB Kevin Jones

Well, it looks like Lovie Smith and Jerry Angelo were using the old smoke screen last June when they told reporters the Bears were okay with what they had at running back. Rotoworld.com and other media outlets report that free-agent running back has signed a one-year deal with the .

ESPN reported that Jones was deciding between the Pittsburgh Steelers and , and would sign as early as today. Jones also attended a physical earlier in the day at Halas Hall shortly before he made his decision. His agent told the Chicago Tribune he was leaning towards the Bears.

This signing shows that the Bears were interested in getting help for rookie running back all along. The signing is a low risk move that has the potential for a high reward. If Forte is all he’s been hyped-up to be and Jones stays healthy, this could be an effective 1-2 punch in Chicago.

Hey, one thing is for sure. Jones knows how to run effectively behind bad offensive lines (i.e. the one for the Detroit Lions). Maybe, he can do the same for the Bears as they enter next season.
