Rejoice, sports gamers! NCAA Football 09 hits shelves on Tuesday

Cover of EA Sports' NCAA Football 09 for the Wii - Michigan State mascot SpartyThere’s still a month and a half to go before the college football season starts, but on Tuesday, sports gamers will be able to get a jump on the 2008 season, when the latest edition of ’ NCAA Football franchise hits stores.

I’ve been an avid sports gamer since I had a Game Boy, and with me being just as much of a college football fan, I’ll be picking the game up. But, instead of picking it up at Wal-Mart or somewhere else, I’ll be getting it from Blockbuster (well, there is the matter of having to pay off some late fees, but that‘s nothing).

There’s a good chance that I buy it, but I want to try it out first, to see just how much it’s worth it to spend the $40 on the game for the PS2 when I’m still trying to fend off the student loan folks.

Still, the fan in me is probably going to spend the money to buy the game outright. Provided they didn’t mess anything up, the game is still going to be a ball of lasting fun because of my personal favorite, Dynasty Mode. There’s nothing like leading my favorite team to national championship after national championship, or like I’ll be doing at some point, starting from the bottom and working my way to the top.

There’ve been several tweaks to the game, from recruiting, to the game play, to even icing the kicker, so even though I still think should start from scratch with the franchise (though I’m not sure how time-consuming and expensive that would be), hopefully there are enough new things to appease those looking for more than just a regurgitated, slightly made-over version of the previous year’s game.

One thing that I’m glad to see added to the PS2 games is the ability to jump in or sim the game whenever you want, which is a great feature anytime you don’t feel like playing the entire game. So, if you’re blowing out your I-AA opponent 63-7 at halftime, you can just sim the rest of the game and get on with the next one.

There is actually one feature that I wouldn’t mind seeing added to Dynasty Mode. Back in the NCAA Gamebreaker days, when 989 Sports tried their hand at college football games, you could be an assistant coach in Dynasty Mode. As it happens, I could block field goals and extra points on that game long before I could on NCAA Football.

Now, I know most people like jumping in as head coach at the school of their choice, but for the diehard fans, that’d be a pretty nice addition.

If you want to check out info about the game, you can check out EA Sports’ official site or go to Sports Gamer to see them break down the game from top to bottom.

And, if you want to get your copy of the game without having to worry about it being out of stock at your local store, you can buy it through The Red Zone Report, because we’re big believers in making things easier for our readers.

And hey, for those who own a Wii, you’re in luck, though the Wii version looks to cater more to the casual, fun gamer than the diehard football fan.
