Former LSU QB Ryan Perrilloux has found a new home, and while it’s a step down from LSU, it’s his best chance to rescue his career.
Perrilloux, who was booted off of LSU’s team by Les Miles less than two weeks ago, signed with FCS member Jacksonville State, who went 6-5 last season and finished fourth in the Ohio Valley Conference with a 5-3 record.
The rising redshirt junior, who was going to start for LSU this season before he was dismissed, will be able to start immediately at the Alabama school, and if he does, his first start could be at Georgia Tech on August 28, which will give him an instant opportunity to show that he’s still more than capable of being a top-level quarterback.
More importantly for Ryan and his future, he’ll have an extremely short leash at Jacksonville State, where last year’s starting QB, Cedric Johnson, was kicked off of the team in February for multiple disciplinary issues.
So, missing even one class for no reason, or stealing a candy bar, or doing anything remotely out of line is out of the question, because if he does anything wrong, coach Jack Crowe will have to mete out some substantial punishment, not only because of Perrilloux’s previous track record, but because anything less would look pretty bad on Crowe’s part.
Hopefully he’ll get his act together, and make the most of this second chance, both on and off of the field. Who knows, maybe all he needed was a change of scenery, and a change of pace.
Talent isn’t the question with Perrilloux, and if he can excel on and off of the field, he can still find a place in the NFL in a few years, even if it’s not the route that everyone thought he’d go through originally.
