Newberry College offensive lineman Heath Benedict was found dead in his Jacksonville home on Wednesday evening.
Benedict was a highly-rated prospect coming out of high school, and started his collegiate career at Tennessee, but transferred to Newberry, where he was one of Division II’s best offensive linemen over the past few seasons.
At 6′6, 328 pounds, with the versatility to play guard or tackle, Benedict was was likely going to be an early second-day selection in April’s draft, either in the third or fourth round.
The two-time Little All-American was 24.
Condolences go out to his loved ones and the Newberry family.
