Veteran Raiders defensive tackle and 7-time Pro Bowler Warren Sapp also retired yesterday, though many seemed to miss the future Hall of Famer’s announcement.
Like his friendly rival Brett Favre, Sapp had an unconvential way of letting fans know he’d had enough. Instead of blowing up Chris Mortenson’s cell phone, Sapp posted the words “I”M DONE” on his website back in January, but official paperwork was filed only recently and the Oakland Raiders let fans know via their official website yesterday.
Meanwhile, Jabar Gaffney has re-signed with the New England Patriots. The 27-year old Gafney caught 36 passess for 449 yards and 5 touchdowns last year for the reigning AFC champs. Meanwhile, the team that cut Gafney, the Houston Texans, continue to look for help at the position. Makes you wonder, if he’s good enough for the Patriots…
The Cleveland Browns didn’t take long to cut a deal for newly acquired defensive tackle Shaun Rodgers. Rogers, a University of Texas product, agreed to a six-year, 42 million dollar contract on Wednesday, essentially keeping him in Cleveland until 2013. At the pace the Browns are making moves this off season, that could be about their 4th or 5th Super Bowl title…
The Patriots have softened the blow of losing Asante Samuel by adding CB Jason Webster. The 5-foot-9, 187-pound Webster has 393 tackles and 11 interceptions in 87 career games. He played last season for Buffalo, albeit essentially a one-game season, before being put on injured reserve. He may not be in the same league as Samuel, but Webster is a solid pro, exactly the kind of player the Patriots love.
The New York Jets upgraded their offensive line with the signing of OT Damien Woody. Woody joins already inked guard Alen Faneca to form what is becoming an impressive unit for the Jets. Looks like the Jets will be steamrolling opponents next year.
RB Mewelde Moore has joined the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers are searching for consistency from a group that also includes the unimpressive Najeh Davenport and ultra-fast Willie Parker.

And if you like unsubstantiated rumors, we hear a Dallas Cowboys deal for the #1 pick in the draft, and the rights to draft super-star running back Darren McFadden, is imminent.
Stay tuned.
