Free agents aren’t the only ones cashing in right now. The Steelers have signed Ben Roethlisberger to an 8-year, $102 million extension, with more than $36 million of it being guaranteed. So, it’s safe to say that he’ll have more than enough to pay for steak dinners for his O-line (well, that is, if they improve on their high sack totals from last season).
Big Ben is coming off of a career year in ’07, when he threw for 3,154 yards and a team-record 32 touchdowns, with only 11 interceptions, while completing more than 65% of his passes. Overall, it’s been a pretty good first four seasons for him (one Super Bowl title, two AFC title game appearances, three playoff appearances), and this deal means that Pittsburgh is not only happy about his progress and success since being the 11th pick in 2004, but that the franchise in his hands for the next several years.
