Coaching search…to be continued.

Williams has interviewed for the vacant Washington Redskins job 4 times. He has been in the same organization as owner Dan Snyder since 2004 as the defensive coordinator, and more than one interview seems excessive.
He is the favorite candidate according to the players and fans and is said to have been the major glue that helped keep the team together and help them rally during the passing of safety Sean Taylor. He helped build the Redskins and will be able to keep the ball rolling with what ex coach Joe Gibbs has built. He seems like a perfect fit for the position.
He seems like a lock.
Things are not that clear for Dan Snyder and the Washington Redskins organization. Dan Snyder has been the owner of the Redskins since 1999 and has worked with Williams since 2004. Snyder brought in Joe Gibbs four years ago to turn around the mess that Steve Spurrier left. Gibbs has done that, and he has left the team in much better condition than when he arrived and when he retired he hoped Washington would promote Williams as coach to maintain a sense of continuity.
But somehow Gregg Williams appears to be rapidly dropping down the list of possible coaching candidates for the Skins.
New names have recently emerged for the vacancy that include former New York Giants’ head coach Jim Fassel, current Giants’ defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, and Josh McDaniels, the current offensive coordinator of New England. Jim Mora and Rex Ryan are also linked to the coaching search as well.
Williams, Mora and Fassel are the only candidates with head coaching experience. Williams was in Buffalo, where he had a record of 17-31, and Fassel was 58-53-1 with the Giants, while Mora was 25-22 in Atlanta.
Spagnuolo and McDaniels can only be interviewed after the Super Bowl, and decisions about the Redskins coaching future will be made then.
So the question for Dan Snyder is; do we want to continue to build on what Joe Gibbs has put in place, or do we want to completely change the culture of the organization?
They need to ask themselves if they can go through another transitional period, if they don’t mind another few years to rebuild or another mediocre record. Or do they want to keep these core group of players and coaches together and keep building on Gibbs’ foundation?
A fresh face could change the culture and bring in a completely new attitude to Washington, but do you want a new attitude when you have one of the most unified teams in the NFL following the emotional roller coaster that has closely bonded the team?
A fresh face would change everything that Joe Gibbs has built, and you are guaranteed to have a transitional period.
It seems clearer that Gregg Williams will not be the next coach of the Redskins.
What would take so long to hire a guy that has been under your nose this whole time?
Why would it take 4 interviews to figure out if you like a guy that you have worked with for years?
And if you do hire Williams; how could you announce this hire with any confidence at this point if it took this long?
Seems like the hire won’t happen.
To be continued.
