1a. Brian Brohm, Louisville: Where will he go? Your guess is as good as mine. I still think there’s no reason that he should have fallen like he has, and that he’s worthy of a top 10 pick and being taken before Ryan, but the chances of that actually happening seem to be slim.
I guess we’ll see on April 26, won’t we?
1b. Matt Ryan, Boston College: Still the top-rated QB by most, besides Scout.com’s Chris Steuber, who has Brohm #1.
3. Joe Flacco, Delaware: Will his big arm lead him to success, or will he be the next Kyle Boller? He could very well end up being the next starting QB for the Ravens, if they snap him up in the second round.
4. Chad Henne, Michigan: Can he be cool under pressure? Ending his career with that monster performance in a comeback win over Florida in the Capital One Bowl was what he needed to show that. Since then, his stock has been on the rise to where he’s a pretty solid second-round selection, especially thanks to a strong Senior Bowl performance.
5. Andre’ Woodson, Kentucky: Woodson’s draft status is another one that’ll be a mystery until his name is called on draft weekend. He could very well still go on the first day, as is the case with someone like Oklahoma State’s Adarius Bowman, but all the same, he could drop to the middle rounds.
6. John David Booty, USC: Booty had a solid Pro Day last week, and may have solidified himself a place in the first three rounds. According to the LA Times’ Gary Klein, Booty completed nearly all of the 80 throws he made, and did well throwing the deep ball.
7. Colt Brennan, Hawaii: The news that Brennan has had to have hip surgery might hurt his stock even further in the eyes of many, but really, why should it? He’s going to be ready for training camp in July, and in the time that he can’t be up and around, he’ll be able to do plenty, including getting acclimated with his new offense as best as he can through the playbook, film, and observing at minicamp. Frankly, it was better for him to have the surgery now, because of when he’ll be able to come back, and so that he can put it behind him and focus on the draft and on getting better.
Brennan was able to participate at Hawaii’s Pro Day, and by all accounts, did very well, showing off his trademark accuracy, and more importantly, throwing the deep ball well. Was it good enough to get him into the first three rounds?
8. Erik Ainge, Tennessee: It won’t surprise me if Ainge ends up being one of the best of the bunch. He has terrific potential, and hopefully that potential will translate into success on the next level.
9. Kevin O’Connell, San Diego St.: O’Connell is one of the prospects that I and a lot of other people have become enamored with throughout the draft process. If he gets the necessary development in the next few years, he could be starting under center while a couple of these guys may still be toiling as backups (playing the percentages, not making predictions).
10. Josh Johnson, San Diego: Johnson could very well be the fifth QB off the board, behind Ryan, Brohm, Henne, and Flacco, because regardless of Woodson’s production and great skill set, that spot is up in the air with the way his stock has taken a downturn, and Johnson’s one of the names in that mix.
How many of these guys are in my updated mock draft? Check it out here.
